SUMMARY:Igniting Career Pathways: A Leadership Lab for Student Voice\, Skills\, and Career Identity
DESCRIPTION:High school students are most successful when they can clearly articulate who they are\, what they bring to the workplace\, and how their strengths connect to future career pathways. This highly interactive session introduces the Leadership Lab\, a toolkit-based framework designed to help high school students develop leaders identity as a core employability skill aligned to CTE Career Pathways and Programs of Study.\nParticipants will experience the Leadership Lab exactly as students would—engaging in short\, high-impact activities that build self-awareness\, professional communication\, and career confidence. Educators will explore practical strategies that integrate seamlessly into existing CTE coursework\, CTSOs\, advisory periods\, internships\, and work-based learning experiences. Emphasis is placed on helping students translate leadership behaviors into resume-ready language and interview responses valued by employers.\nThe Leadership Lab is grounded in four pillars: Strengths and Career Identity\; Voice\, Agency\, and Professional Communication\; Leadership and Employability Skills Valued by Employers\; and Career Pathway Alignment with Real-World Application. Participants will leave with ready-to-use tools they can implement immediately to strengthen student engagement\, clarity\, and workforce readiness.

SUMMARY:Illinois Programs of Study Alignment Initiative
DESCRIPTION:Illinois has made significant investments in career and technical education (CTE) and postsecondary pathways\, yet two parallel frameworks\, the Illinois Model Programs of Study Guides and the ISBE CTE Model Programs of Study\, currently operate without full alignment. This session explores the importance of integrating these frameworks to create a coherent\, student-centered system that supports seamless transitions from high school to postsecondary education and into the workforce. Participants will learn how a unified model can provide clearer guidance for students\, educators\, and administrators\; strengthen alignment with labor market data and Illinois’ high-demand industries\; and better connect high school CTE\, dual credit opportunities\, community colleges\, and four-year institutions. The session will also address how alignment can help close equity gaps and expand access to high-quality career pathways statewide. Importantly\, participants will have the opportunity to review the updated guides and provide feedback to inform their continued refinement and implementation across Illinois.

SUMMARY:Physical Computing Skills for all CTE Clusters
DESCRIPTION:The newest CTE career clusters list digital technology as foundational skills for all students\, but these invaluable tools have often been out of reach for many rural school districts because of perceived barriers around costs and technical ability. Thankfully\, you don’t need to be a computer scientist to teach your students about technology! This hands-on session introduces the micro:bit\, a simple microcontroller\, as a versatile\, budget-friendly tool for teaching about sensors\, data\, &nbsp\;and automation concepts with zero prior coding experience. Participants will use the intuitive Microsoft MakeCode editor to build career-connected projects that utilize built-in sensors for real-world environmental monitoring and data collection. The workshop demonstrates how to bridge the gap between digital logic and physical hardware\, offering a scalable curriculum that ranges from beginner-friendly blocks to advanced text-based programming. Participants will leave with practical\, ready-to-use activities that prepare students for the increasingly tech-driven landscape of modern industry.

SUMMARY:From Student to Future Educator: Cultivating Belonging and Leadership Through the Redbird Educator Scholarship
DESCRIPTION:For the past three years\, the Redbird Educator Scholars Program at Illinois State University has strengthened the educator pipeline by preparing future teachers through peer mentorship\, a sense of belonging\, and early leadership development. The program pairs incoming teacher education majors with trained sophomore mentors who support their transition into the college environment and help them engage in their academic pathway. As mentors gain leadership experience\, scholars demonstrate stronger academic confidence\, greater engagement in their major\, and a clearer sense of identity as future educators. This session will share successful experiences and examples of positive student outcomes observed within the program\, offering practical ideas for how high schools and teacher preparation partners can support students who are interested in pursuing education as a college and career pathway.

SUMMARY:The Power and Potential of Rural PharmTech Programs
DESCRIPTION:Rural communities need stronger talent pathways\, and rural CTE programs are uniquely positioned to build these for student success and community vitality. Data from the Rural IL CTE Project shows major rural economic sectors\, such as healthcare\, are underserved by local CTE programs. Rural pharmacies are especially endangered by the lack of clear pathways into this high-demand\, high-wage\, and steady-growth industry. The Rural PharmTech Program\, a collaboration between EFE #300\, EFE #320\, Carle Health\, and the Rural IL CTE Project\, creates a direct pathway into the rural healthcare sector for college and career-bound students. Students become licensed as Registered Pharmacy Technicians\, a credential allowing them to work for pay in every US state. This session will detail the pilot model\, explain its role in strengthening rural students and communities\, and share early outcomes from the pioneering cohort.
